There was a time when we would fill the space with our family history. A legacy that demonstrated our tradition and authenticity. But tradition and authenticity are fluid things when talking about cultural heritage in the United States. A beautiful byproduct of being a melting pot is that different cultures influence each other in different ways. The concept of being “Italian-American” means something slightly different depending on where you grew up, and what other culture backgrounds mingled with your own. Don’t believe us? We’ve got seven words that can prove it: Chicago Deep Dish vs. New York Style.

It is enough to say that we are a multi-generational Italian-American family in the little town of Krebs, Oklahoma. Where a family of artisan’s artists and craftsmen. We are a family that is spent formative years in one of the oldest and most beloved time restaurants in our state. This experience had a profound effect on each of us, and we carry what is left of that legacy in our hearts.

When we opened the first Gabriella’s in Port Isabel, Texas in 2003, it was a massive learning experience. We were far removed from the familiar, and no one really “got us.” That was okay, though. We moved to Port Isabel because nobody really “got us” at home either. So we rolled up our sleeves, and got to work.

It was there that we learned how to use our brick oven - the first in the state of Texas!

It was there that we learned that we couldn’t hold too tightly to the past and gave up on family-style concept we grew up with.

It was there that we learned how to grow and find the courage to explore. We found our voice and a wonderful adaptive family in our Deep South Texas community, but eventually it was time to come home. Ever since coming to the Metro, our family has had one goal: to bring our home, our memory, our legacy to your table. To share with you a brief taste of what it was like to set up our table when we were kids.

Are we traditional? We don’t know.

If something you eat with us reminds you of your last trip to the motherland, we are humbled and so glad that we could help you experience that memory again.

If everything you eat is radically different from your definition of “Italian dining” that’s okay too, we hope you enjoy the adventure just the same.

Are we authentic? Absolutely!

We are Krebs Italian.
